My introduction to the Miss Klamath County program came in 2008 when my daughter, Maria, participated in the Outstanding Teen program and was awarded first runner up and Miss Congeniality. The following November she was crowned Miss Klamath County's Outstanding Teen 2010. After that I spent several years as a hostess for other girls participating in the program. I also do a make-up class, for both daytime and stage looks with the contestants. Every year, each girl crowned receives Mary Kay gifts that I sponsor. For the past several years, I have also sponsored the True Beauty scholarship in which the contestants are asked to write an essay stating what beauty means to them, how they can affect the media conversation around beauty and how they can reach out to younger girls with a conversation about beauty in a way that can empower them and create self-confidence. This year I am able to provide a scholarship for both the miss program and the teen program.
I have seven beautiful grandchildren and three amazing daughters! I am so proud of the women they have become. I am a licensed professional counselor, and have worked as a school counselor, in private practice, and I'm honored to currently be serving the 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field. I serve on the Board of Directors for Basin Youth for Christ and I'r passionate about reaching out to young people in our community. Additionally, I've been with Mary Kay for over 25 years. I love the company's philosophy of God first, family second and career third, as that fits so well in my life. I love the outdoors and enjoy camping and hiking, but don't do nearly enough of it. I am also passionate about the performing arts of theater, dance and music. I've performed in numerous plays at the Ross Ragland, many of them with my daughters. I'm honored to be a member of this board and to have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these young women. I believe that if you touch the life of a woman, you can make a difference in all the lives she touches as well.
